Hamish Dow
Lecturer, University of StrathclydeHamish Dow is a Lecturer in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Strathclyde and holds a PhD from the same department. His research focuses on creating automated inspection and novel sensor systems for safety-critical infrastructure structural health monitoring. Central to his research is the use of scene illumination as an engineered component of the inspection.
Hamish is the co-founder, lead inventor, and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of ALICS, a University of Strathclyde spin-out company commercialising adaptive lighting inspection technology.

Ignite Session: Definitive Crack Measurement for Concrete Bridges Using Adaptive Lighting
12:45 - 12:50
- ALICS is a new visual inspection platform developed by the University of Strathclyde that uses scene illumination and AI-powered algorithms to definitively measure concrete cracks.
- This session explores how repeat deployment tracks crack growth objectively across successive inspections, giving asset owners consistent, auditable data to support principal and special Inspections of concrete bridges.
