Exploring Design Options for the M6 Lune Gorge

10:50 - 11:15 Repair, Refurbish, Renovate
  • Kier has been appointed by National Highways to carry out an essential maintenance programme on eight bridges spanning the M6 in Cumbria. The concrete structures are rapidly approaching the end of their serviceable life and each of them will either be repaired or refurbished.
  • The bridge renewal scheme through Lune Gorge covers a six-mile stretch of the motorway between junctions 37 and 38. Seven of the bridges support the M6 itself, while the remaining bridge carries the A685 over it.
  • The main construction phase will run for three and a half years, with works due to start in Summer 2026 and expected to be completed by Winter 2029.
