Stuart started working with Amey in Dec 2002 as Graduate Engineer. Experience throughout that period has been almost completely within a Structures Trunk Road Maintenance Environment in both SW and SE networks. Bridges Manager / Major Bridges Manager in SE Unit for approximately 5 years, Major Bridges Manager in SW Unit between 2022 and early 2023. Bridges Manager in SW Unit 2023. Structures Technical Director 2022 to September 2025, Structures Project Director September 2025 to present.

  • Project Identification - inspection output; defect prioritisation and programme requirements.
  • Design Considerations and Constraints - challenges faced at design stage; awareness of sequence of operations, methods of demolition, temporary works and DMRB requirements.
  • Traffic Modelling and Management - Full traffic flow maintained by splitting works into five phases, with careful planning of construction joints, development of traffic model and delay prediction.
  • Construction progress, phasing and challenges - Phasing considerations; responding to issues and the changes required following each, lessons learned in earlier phases influencing overall programme.
  • Buildability Improvements During The Construction Phase, Linked to bullet point above but will provide further discussion on full-length hydro demolition cage, disassembly of edge protection and resource / supply chain acceleration.
